ABOUT
TEKELIA FINCH, MASTER CAKE DESIGNER & DECORATOR.
"Eggs, Flour, Sugar; three simple ingredients that changed my life."
"Baking is linked to some of the most special moments with my family"

The one single question that I get the most is how did I fall in love with baking? I can remember the moment as if it happened just yesterday. I was five years old helping my grandmother Annie Jewel with our family’s favorite red velvet cake recipe. I took every opportunity to learn from my grandmother and ask questions as she baked for the family. From sifting flour to cracking eggs I was there every step of the way, learning, listening and tasting. One day she turned to me and handed me a recipe on an old index card and just starred. My granny realized that I knew every step and every detail, so she said you make this one. This was the moment that I feel in love with baking.
Designing and decorating cakes came to me at a much later time in life. My mother was working on a cake for a wedding that just didn’t come together the way that she wanted. She was at the point of throwing the cake away. Well I said what if we just decorate the cake with these pieces and some of those pieces? I think if we did that it would make a great cake. Everyone loved the cake and the design. I had people ask if I could do it again and again which I did. I realized that I was happier baking and designing cakes than working my full-time job as a Chemist, so I started my own business. Decorating cakes is my form of art that tells a story, your story. I am pleased that I can share my family recipes and designs with each and everyone of you. We realize here at Kutie Cakes that every cake has a story just like the one I shared with you.
